We teach Social, Ballroom, Latin & Swing Dances

GETTING STARTED - We recommend new students enroll in our introductory "Two For 25" Special. You get two 25-minute private lessons, one on one with an instructor. During these two sessions you will learn "How We Teach," and we will get an idea of "how you learn." At the completion of your two 25-minute private lessons we can help you establish your dancing goals and customize a program that makes your dancing dreams come true. Once we have your goals firmly established you can begin to combine lessons, practice sessions and dancing nights out and find the path to becoming the dancer YOU want to be.

PRIVATE LESSONS - Individually scheduled and individually conducted, you will learn at your pace and on your schedule, one-on-one with a "Suzy and Hondo School of Dance" professional dance instructor. A private lesson is considered 1-2 students and one instructor. You may come with your partner but a partner is not required.

GROUP CLASSES - The most affordable way to learn a variety of dance styles. Beginning each semester we will offer a 10-week evening series focusing on material from the green sheet, the blue sheet and/or the red sheet. These 10-week series will require a minimum of 6 registered students. Check our on-line calendar to find the dates, times and materials to be included. Drop-in style classes will be offered one Saturday afternoon per month in a mini-clinic format. Check our on-line calendar to find the dates, times and materials to be included.

YOUTH BALLROOM - Kids 18 and under can learn our dance styles too! Ballroom dancing is an exceptional opportunity to learn poise, confidence, athleticism, grace, posture, etiquette, respect AND a lifelong skill. (This goes for you grown-ups too). Our school offers a once per summer youth camp intensive, in addition to year round private lessons for your child. Suzy and Hondo School of Dance will also be organizing the Bemidji Area Ballroom Dance Club - High School Chapter - via the Bemidji Community Education Department - and the Bemidji State University Ballroom Dance Club - via the Hobson Memorial Union at BSU, both beginning Fall 2011. In addition Suzy and Hondo have instructed the Bemidji State University Swing Dance Club since 1998.

BALLROOM BLITZ - Our evening practice/coaching sessions, the Ballroom Blitz will include 90 minutes of supervised studio floor time for practice. There will be Suzy and Hondo Team Members on-hand to review patterns and techniques already learned and provide beginner basics on preliminary patterns and Around Town Dances©.

THE RAMBLE - Our late evening open dancing sessions, the Rambles are a low-cost way to get more practice time and are offered during the "school year."

WEDDING COUPLES - If you've got an upcoming wedding, you will love our specialized wedding couple programs. We will use the information you provide during your lessons to build a custom curriculum just for you.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION - we offer a variety of "Sampler Classes" through regional area Community Education departments. Check with your individual school district to see if we are on their Adult Enrichment schedule.

SPECIAL GROUPS - Did you know that Girl Scouts can earn a dance patch for learning a variety of dance styles from us at Suzy and Hondo School of Dance. We have also worked with a variety of other private groups including: The Pink Bus Ladies, the Wiigiiwaagan Path of Life Healthy Marriages Program, Upward Bound, the Jaycees, Balancing our Lifestyles Diabetes Prevention Program, Corporate Retreats, Alternative Proms, All Night Parties, Summer Programs, Church Groups, Elementary, Middle and High School outreach and MORE!

COMPETITION - Take your skills to the competition floor! Dress up, invite your friends, fans and family and find out what the judges think of you! There are a wide variety of Sanctioned and Non-Sanctioned Ballroom, Latin and Dancesport competitions every year. Suzy and Hondo School of Dance will organized and lead a group to many of these events. Find out more in your lessons - just ask your instructor.

MEDAL TESTING - If you would like to find out what the judges think of you, but are not quite ready for the glitz, glamour and pageantry for the competition events, sign up for one of our Medal Testing events. Dance with your instructor while a Dance Vision International certified examiner grades your dancing skills - an awards you a Bronze, Silver or Gold Medal certificate. Find our more in your lessons - just ask your instructor.

CURRICULUM - Whether you are doing private lessons, group classes or a combination, we will track your progress with one of our five curriculum.

1. The Green Sheet© - offered in group format or private lessons - includes Waltz, Fox Trot, Cha Cha, Hustle, Jitterbug, Rumba, Country Two Step, Slow Dance, Salsa, Tango. Learn the preliminary patterns of these 10 dances, (five UPTOWN© dance styles, five DOWNTOWN© dance styles), then choose among these styles for your Dance Major and your Dance Minor.
2. The Blue Sheet© - includes Night Club Two Step, Lindy Hop, Samba, Polka, Charleston, Mambo, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Conga, Merengue. Learn the preliminary patterns of these 10 dances, (five UPTOWN© dance styles, five DOWNTOWN© dance styles), then choose among these styles for your Dance Major and your Dance Minor. Some of these dances styles may require additional prep work.
3. The Red Sheet© - offered in group format or private lessons - includes Country Swing, Bossa Nova, Shag, Bolero, Schottische, Balboa, Country Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Argentine Tango, Peabody. Learn the preliminary patterns of these 10 dances, (two UPTOWN© dance styles, eight DOWNTOWN© dance styles), then choose among these styles for your Dance Major and your Dance Minor. Some of these dance styles may require additional prep work.
4. The Custom - offered in private lessons only - choose among the above styles for your Dance Major and your Dance Minor. Some styles may require additional prep work.
5. AROUND TOWN DANCES© - (LINE, FOLK, PARTY, MIXERS, etc). Learn choreographed routines to popular party music without a partner. Suzy and Hondo specialize in a mulitcultural curriculum of non-partner dances - including Line, Folk and Party.
